Board of Directors

The Clarksburg Sports Association (CSA) is directed and managed by experienced professionals who are committed to serving the youth and long term health of our community.
The Clarksburg Sports Association Board of Directors will serve to formalize and grow the organization in a manner consistent with the vision.  The Board assists and advises the CSA President and Commissioners in the exercise of institutional responsibility, development and management of the CSA athletic programs.
The guiding concern of the Board is the growth and development of Clarksburg community youth who will ultimately participate in Montgomery County Public School athletic and other community based sports/physical education programs. The Board provides an important leadership perspective and plays an active role in advancing the mission of the CSA athletic program including efforts to inform the public about the shared vision for preparing student-athletes for productive and meaningful lives through athletics and higher education.

GJ Kissal

GJ Kissal grew up in Rockville, Maryland. He attended University of Maryland where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology and George Washington University for his Masters of Education. He has been coaching basketball at the High School and Collegiate level for the past 19 years, the past 8 years as a Head Varsity Coach at Rockville HS and Clarksburg HS.  During his 19 years of involvement in youth programs GJ has developed and managed summer camps providing both individual and group instruction.  He piloted and ran Rockville High Schools very successful youth basketball program “Orange Alliance”.

Over the past 2 years, GJ has been involved in CSA basketball program conducting clinics and supporting the select tryout process for winter and summer teams, implementing grassroots mentality for organizational stability, encouraging and promoting the need for a “year round” program by assisting in implementing the first ever CSA participation in the summer Rising Star league, and planning, promoting and directing Coach Kissal’s Basketball Camp.

GJ was the former Varsity Basketball Coach at Clarksburg High School and is currently the head Basketball coach at Good Council High School. He and his family have lived in Montgomery County for over 24 years and lives in the Clarksburg Area.

Robyn Jones
Robyn Jones is an active community volunteer with extensive experience in the human services fields.  After graduating from Iowa State University with a M.S. in Human Development and Family Studies with a specialization in housing, Robyn worked in the service delivery and management field of housing for over 15 years.  In addition to serving on the Commission on Landlord and Tenant Affairs, Robyn also serves on the Sharing Montgomery Grants Committee.  Robyn also served on the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless Board of Directors and The Bernie Scholarship Award Program Board Member. An avid sports fan, Robyn currently is the Head Coach for her son’s CSA basketball team. Robyn is married and the mother of one son.

Kevin Monroe

Originally from Muscatine, Iowa, Kevin Monroe has lived in Montgomery County for 13 years.  Kevin attended Iowa State University on a track and baseball scholarship.  He earned his Master’s Degree in Administration & Supervision from Bowie State University. Kevin is a Physical Education teacher and also the Head Indoor and Outdoor Track &Field coach at Kennedy High School in Silver Spring, Md.  Among his numerous accolades, Kevin earned the Montgomery County Gazette Girls Outdoor Track& Field Coach of the Year Award in 2011.  He is also in his 3rd year serving as the Assistant Athletic Director at Kennedy.  Kevin currently resides in Clarksburg with his wife and two sons.

Larry Hurd, Jr.

Larry Hurd, Jr is currently the Head Football Coach at Clarksburg High School.  Over the past 20 years, Coach Hurd has been involved with youth sports on many levels.  Coach Hurd has served as a board member in the I-270 basketball league and was also an active member of the Gaithersburg Sports Association in football and baseball.  He has been involved with the Clarksburg Sports Association since it’s very beginnings in 2006.  As a high school coach, Coach Hurd has coached many various sports including football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, and softball.  Coach Hurd has been named Coach of the Year in football and basketball on several occasions.  Coach Hurd has led his football, basketball, baseball, and softball teams to 15 regional championship games combined.  Coach Hurd is committed to the youth of Clarksburg and looks forward to the continuation of the solid foundation of student athletes and community members in the Clarksburg area.
